Independent guide
Verify a company before trusting it with your case
People who have just lost funds become the target of a second wave of solicitations. This guide gives you the official checks to run — for any firm, including ours.
1. Check the company's legal existence
Every UK-registered company appears in the public Companies House register: name, number, registered office, status and filing history. Always ask for the company number and compare it against the register — a company that is absent from it, or whose status reads “dissolved”, is not a reliable counterparty.
2. Check the financial regulators' registers
In France, the Autorité des marchés financiers (AMF) publishes the list of websites and entities not authorised to offer crypto-asset services, alongside the firms it licenses. The Autorité de contrôle prudentiel et de résolution (ACPR) maintains a register of authorised institutions. If the firm you are talking to claims to be a bank, payment institution or crypto-asset service provider, verify that claim in these registers first.
3. Check the domain and email addresses
A serious firm writes from its own professional domain and displays its official address on its website. Be wary of generic addresses (gmail, outlook, proton) presented as “customer service”, of links received by SMS when you asked for nothing, and of sites whose address in the browser bar differs slightly from the one advertised.
4. Ask for a written engagement framework
Before any engagement, ask in writing: the exact scope of work, the fees and when they apply, the deliverables, and what happens if there is no result. An established firm answers without hesitation, in writing, before any billable work begins.
5. Report suspicious behaviour
In France, the Ministry of the Interior's Pharos platform lets you report a suspicious website or contact online; cybermalveillance.gouv.fr guides victims of digital fraud. In the United Kingdom, reports go to Action Fraud. Reporting protects the next victims.
